Another beautiful late spring day for the semi-finals of the John Laing Shield (H/cap Matchplay), other golfers played a stroke round.  There were clear skies and the merest zephyr of a southerly breeze so, no excuses for the quality of the golf.  The semi-finals were like chalk and cheese, one stitched up early in the back nine while the other went right down to the wire and it was a wiley old veteran who used all his experience at Romsey to “take home the chocolates”.  Despite the fairways being in good nick and the greens running true and fast the stroke groups made hard work of numerous holes.  One player would pick up a birdie then double bogie the next few holes; it was a day of ups and downs and anyone who could play reasonably consistent golf was in with a good chance.  On another great day to be out in the park the results were;

Winner; Rob Rea – 91/18/73 from Bruce Robb – 105/30/75, Sherif Abdel-Sayed 100/295/75 & Keith Hocking – 105/30/75
