Monday May 13th – Rd 4 – 2019 DDGA Women’s Pennant

RGC hosted the 4th round of the 2019 women’s pennant.  RGC, playing Avenel, hit off from 9.00 am.  The recent rains and overnight dew had slowed the greens; all players had to be assertive with the putter if they wished to take advantage of good approach shots.  Lancefield took on Trentham.  RGC results were; Darlene Baker – W3/2, Jenny Hartley -L4/3 , Beryl Cole -Sq , Elaine Scanlon – W5/3 & Lorraine Robb -Sq

Overall results on the day were

Romsey D Avenel – 3/2

Lancefield D Trentham – 3.5/1.5

Saturday May 11th – Rd 2 – 2019 Men’s Club Championships

With over 40mm of rain falling between Wednesday and Friday the course was far softer than in recent times, add to this the cold, late autumn air and almost everyone had trouble driving their normal distance and hitting the green in regulation.  The rain saw “relief to a card width” given as all balls would pick up mud.  A gentle breeze from the SW blew up occasionally causing problems for higher approach shots.  On a challenging afternoon it was up to one of the club’s evergreen veterans to show the way home.  The day’s results were;

Winner; Les Gaunt – 78/7/71 from Rob Rea – 90/18/72 & John Freestone 93/21/72

NTPs; 15th – Scott Williams, 16th- – Steve Wilkins

Wednesday May 8th – Rd 2 – 2019 Women’s Championships

The second round of the women’s Club Championship was held after some welcome overnight rain which softened up the fairways and greens. Those who adapted well to the strong southerly wind and were able to stay on the fairways scored well .  Firm confident putts were rewarded.  Daily results  were;

Sunday May 5th – 2019 DDGA Men’s Pennant Golf

Division 2 Scratch

RGC was hosting the final round of the Div 2 Scratch competition.  It was a tight field with three teams vying for 1st and 2nd positions.  Play began with freshly mown greens (Ta Twig) and an overcast sky. Rain threatened but never eventuated.  At the end of the day all players were very positive about the improvements the club had made to the greens and fairways.

Overall results;

Seymour D Strathbogie – 5/2

Kilmore Sq Broadford – 3.5/3.5

The Div 2 Scratch final will be between Kilmore and Seymour.  Good luck to both teams

Division 3 Handicap

RGC travelled to Hidden Valley for the penultimate round of the 2019 competition.  With Woodend ensconced on top RGC was vying with Kilmore for 2nd spot and a place in the final.  A win was vital.  The cool, overcast afternoon challenged everyone as Hidden Valley is a long course with many water hazards and the colder air saw everyone lose distance.   Deciding whether to lay up short of the water or hit over the top was often a difficult decision. RGC did well to pick up a much needed win.  The final round, 19/5 will see RGC play Hidden Valley and Kilmore play Trentham.  These two matches will decide who challenges Woodend in  the final.    RGC results were; Rob Rea – W4/3, Heath Rea – W3/2, Scott Williams – W5/4, John Freestone – W1up, Chris vanDerVliet – L6/7, Ron Walker – L5/4 & Mick Nicholls Jnr – L3/2.

Overall results were;

Romsey D Mt Macedon – 4/3

Woodend D Kilmore – 4/3

Euroa D Trentham – 6/1

Saturday May 4th – Rd 1 – 2019 Men’s Club Championships

The Club Championships had all players hitting-off, from the 1st in 10 minute intervals.  There was some light drizzle during the round and the wind moved from the NW to the SW causing more than a few problems for all approaches shots.  Around 25mm of rain during the week saw the course fast softer than in recent months, this and the cold air saw all players work harder to get good distance off the tee and with low irons.  However, despite the tougher conditions a number of players were able to tame the course and post excellent scores, none better than one of the club’s veterans.  On a cold, breezy afternoon the results were;

Winner; Mick Nicholls Snr; 88/21/67 from Pat Chisholm – 81/13/69, Mal Mottram – 82/11/71 & Les Gaunt – 79/8/71

NTPs; 1st – Mick Squire, 15th – Rob Rea, 16th – Bob McLennan

Wednesday May 1st – Rd 1 2019 Club Championships

The first round of the Women’s 2019  Club Championships were held in blustery conditions with the first rain for months falling steadily for the first four holes of the morning. The wind was from the north and whipped away any ball sent high from the tee. The greens were a lot slower due to the rain and took some getting used to; firm putts were required. Results were;

Winner; Darlene Baker – 94/19/75 from Elaine Scanlon – 113/30/83 C/B from Jenny Hartley – 102/19/83    C/B
Least Putts; Jenny Hartley – 29

Mt Macedon D Kilmore – 4.5/2.5
