Wednesday March 10th – Stableford, 1st Rd Silver Spoon

Overnight rain eased to a light drizzle by tee off time and quickly disappeared to allow the sun to shine on a typical autumn day.  It was a day made for good scoring but only Rob Slade was able to take advantage by scoring a tidy 39 points. Others seemed to shine for one nine only to fall away on the other nine.
A running competition of Stableford for the second round of the Silver Spoon was started with Jenny Hartley the clubhouse leader.

Saturday March 6th – Rd 2A – 2021 Summer Cup – Stroke

The 2021 Summer Cup (Dedicated to the memory of Dean Jones) had one round to go.  This round, originally scheduled for Sat Feb 13th, had been delayed by the mid January Covid-19 restrictions.  With this year’s Summer Cup 1st place virtually locked away all the interest was in the 2nd and 3rd placings.  There were five players who, with a good performance, could take out these awards.  Golf began under cold, overcast skies but conditions quickly improved as the sun shone through.  There was a surprisingly strong southerly breeze that pulled up shots on some fairways and pushed balls well wide on other holes.  However, generally the conditions were excellent for golf and a number of players took advantage to card good scores.  On a sunny, slightly windy afternoon the results were;

Winner: Mal Mottram – 77/8/69 from Anthony Lakey – 93/22/71, Simon Donovan – 83/12/71 & Andrew Clement – 80/8/72

NTPs; 1st – Anthony Lakey, 15h – Mick Squire.

2021 Summer Cup – Dedicated to the memory of Dean Jones

Thursday March 4th – Lancefield Tournament – Lancefield G. C.

Lancefield Golf Club hosted their annual tournament on, what turned out to be, a perfect day for golf.   The sun was shining, the wind was a gentle breeze and the temperature a nice 20°. The course was in good condition with quite a bit of summer roll. The greens were very good and running true.
Dalhousie players came from all around including five players from Romsey, Beryl Cole, Elaine Scanlon, Wendy Gosden, Jenny Hartley and Darlene Baker.  Jenny had the best score of the Romsey contingent with a score of 101/28/74.  Darlene had one good shot of the day on the par 3, 5th and managed to be the nearest the pin on that hole, winning a nice umbrella.
2021 Lancefield Open Champion;  Adrienne Anglin (Yea) – 86.

A Grade Nett; Heather Jenkins (Marysville) – 87/20/67.

Wednesday February 3rd – Doris Chambers Foursomes

The weather was particularly chilly with the temperature at 9° as players teed off and only managing to reach 14° by the end of the round. The course was in great condition. The 5th fairway was inundated with water from a leaking pipe but, as is typical of our great band of volunteers, the problem was attended to within minutes of it being reported.  We are so lucky to have the people we do who use their expertise and time to keep everything running on the course. Foursomes often proves difficult to score well as players adjust to alternate shots with their partner and try to remember whose turn it is to tee off on the next hole .   No such problems for our winning team of Chris Manktelow and Hugh Williams who enjoyed the format and scored a commendable 39 pts in the Stableford format.The foursomes round was a chance for the ladies to represent the club at the Doris Chambers Foursomes later in the golfing year and the clubhouse leader for that event was the team of Darlene Baker and Jenny Hartley 35 pts. The day’s results were;
1st; Chris Manktelow   (34)/Hugh Williams (20) – 39pts
2nd; Kath Jekabsons    (36)/Rob Slade (18) – 37pts
3rd;  Darlene Baker       (17)/Jenny Hartley (23) – 35pts

Tuesday March 2nd -Irish Day – Kyneton G. C.

The Kyneton Golf Club was awash with green and the occasional orange outfit in celebration of their Irish Day.   The ladies from Lancefield were well decked out and managed to win the best dressed team with their orange wigs, sparkly hats and green getup.
Wendy, Jenny and Darlene, representing RGC, had a great day out, enjoying the chance to play away from home and to meet up with other golfers. Wendy hit the shot of the day on the par 3, 17th to bring home the prize for nearest the pin on that hole.
Winners on the day were a team from Kyneton with an excellent score of 99 points

Sunday February 28th – Kilmore Par 3 – Kilmore G. C.

Romsey was well represented at the Kilmore Par 3 event held on the last day of summer with Darlene Baker and Jenny Hartley,  along with Gary Sandow, Clinton Sterlson and Ralph Senn playing in the field of 91 golfers.
The weather was picture perfect with not a breath of wind and the course was in good condition with nice green fairways. The greens had been well watered and were very receptive to the ball lobbed in from up high.   Gary Sandow hit a great shot into the 18th green to be rewarded with nearest the pin on that hole.
Bron Gunn (64/9/55) was the overall winner for the women and Matt Ford (52/1/51) for the men, congratulations to both.

Saturday February 27th – 2021 Summer Cup Rd 4B – Monthly Medal, Stroke & Putts

Another excellent day for golf, course in top condition, greens running fast and true and virtually no wind.  Still, the tight fairways and smaller greens made sure everyone had to play their best to hope to figure in the day’s presentations.  The odd strange bounce on a fairway, a fortuitous rebound from a tree or hitting the wrong ball also had an effect on the day’s results.  On a great day for golf the days results were;

Winner and February Medalist; Davey Kenney – 86/16/70 C/B Michael Bretherton – 106/36/70 from Mal Mottram – 80/9/71

NTPs; 1st – Davey Kenney, 15th & 16th – Mick Nicholls Snr

Least Putts; John Moody – 25

Thursday February 25th – Alexandrea Bowl, Alexander G. C.

RGC had four players in the Alexandra Bowl, the first club Bowl of the year. 43 players from 11 clubs throughout the District and surrounds enjoyed summer run and challenging, true greens.

1st; Seymour 2 –  106 stableford points from

2nd; Marysville 3 –  100 points

3rd; Romsey – 99 points.  (Jenny Hartley (23) 31 points Wendy Gosden (26) &  Elaine Scanlon (35) both 34 points.)

Wendy, Elaine, Beryl & Jenny, four very happy RGC members.

Wednesday February 24th – 2021 Summer Cup, Rd 4A – Monthly Medal

After a chilly start to the day the sun emerged from behind the clouds and produced ideal conditions yet again for the fourth round of the Summer Cup.  It’s such a pleasure to play on the course at the moment but the dreaded Corellas have been at it again and have created deep holes on a number of the greens.  It is so disappointing to see the damage created by these pesky birds after so much work by our volunteers.  One highlight of the round was a chip-in on the par four 10th by Pam Drummond and another was the great round, to win the daily comp, by Rob Slade. Results of Daily Competition were;

1st; Rob Slade                    87/18/69
2nd; Jenny Hartley              98/23/75
3rd; Hugh Drummond        93/16/77    c/b Wendy Gosden           102/26/77

Saturday February 20th – 2021 Summer Cup Rd 3B – Stableford

Light rain was falling as the field headed to the tee for the Stableford round., the rain fell at irregular intervals for the remainder of the round.  The strong field saw a number of unusual tees being used but all worked well and the field flowed smoothly.  I was good to welcome back long term member John Moody for his first Saturday round in many months also good to welcome newcomers Eugene and Rob Bretherton. The course was again in top condition with the greens fast and true except the9th and 15th which g-had been attacked by the birds.  Hopefully these corellas are about to move on.  Conditions were excellent for golf and a number fo players carded good scores.  On a sunny afternoon with periods of light rain the results were;

Winner; Jim Patton – (19) – 43 pts from Davey Kenney (17) – 40 pts, Andrew Clement (9) – 37 pts, Keith Hocking (29) – 37 pts & Elaine Scanlon (34) – 36 pts

NTPs; 1st – Mal Mottram & 15th – Mick Squire
