Saturday March 27th – Monthly Medal, Stroke & Putts

After more mid autumn rain (42mm) the course, and Park as a whole, had greened up and softened, once a ball landed it did not got far.  The new drains had worked very well; there was no casual water in the usual spots of the past. While two of the greens were very soft the remainder were in excellent condition.  The round began under overcast skies but after the first few holes the sun shone through and jumpers came off.  Over the final few holes a strong westerly wind blew up causing more than a few problems for the final groups as they came up the 18th.  Despite the conditions many players found it tough to return a good score.  On a generally good afternoon the results were;

Saturday March 13th – Algie Mitchell Shield Qualifying – Stableford, top 8 (G4aC)

With heavy rain predicted for mid afternoon the club invoked the “Extreme Weather” policy and play began at 9.30am.  This round was also a “Golf Fore A Cause” round, double the usual competition fee with half going to the Drummond Golf cancer research fund.  Conditions were generally excellent, reasonably still, good cover on almost all fairways and the greens fast and true.  Towards the end of the round a strong westerly wind blew up causing a few problems for all golfers.  The club’s call for an early start proved correct with just about everyone making it into the rooms before the rain began to fall.  On a cool, overcast morning and afternoon the results were;

Winner; Mick Squire (4) – 38 pts C/B Josh Squire (41) from Rowan Stott (17) -37 pts & Chris Manktelow (34) – 36 pts
